Morrisville has a new restaurant in town and this vibrant eatery and scene is just what the borough needs!
You may recognize the Yardley restaurateurs, Nicole and Frederick Rabena. They own and operate Mil-Lee's Diner, La La Lobster, Yardley Joe, and Yardley Distillery (Yardley Restaurant Group). They have decided to venture both their craft spirits and culinary passion into the next town over to the Morrisville community.
Located in the old Friendly's off West Trenton Avenue, Nicole had visions to turn this space into a Tex-Mex restaurant, featuring exceptional food and the distillery’s own handcrafted cocktails. She used to work at the establishment when it was a Friendly's years ago, so it brought back fond memories for her working in the food industry. To pay homage, they feature a cocktail called the Fribbletini: combining Yardley Distillery vodka, strawberry crème, banana liquor and toasted marshmallow.
The dining group has worked endlessly to curate a menu that pays tribute to the authentic cuisine of Texas and Mexico, while infusing the distinct character of their Yardley Distillery's craft spirits.
I recently went for brunch with my family on a Sunday, which they recently started incorporating into their weekly hours! For our first time going there, we decided to try the brunch menu because the creative food and drink pairings looked so delicious! We love their canned cocktails, and the products of their Yardley restaurants, so we knew it was going to be good!
As soon as you walk in, you are welcomed with an inviting bar with purple lights, colorful artwork, long wooden tables, and reclaimed wood on the walls (fun fact, all the wood panels are from a fallen tree in Princeton!).
Tempted to order the Bloody Mary Meal to start (featuring a cheese quesadilla, chicken wing, olives, cheese, pickle, shrimp, bacon, celery, and carrot served with a bloody Mary), my husband, Justin and I just ordered their standard Bloody Mary. It had the right amount of heat and was a perfect way to start the meal.
Since it was brunch, my dad and I had breakfast on our minds. He ordered the Breakfast Big Burrito and I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. My dad loved the combination of ingredients in the burrito with scrambled eggs, cheese, and potatoes inside. I got grilled chicken on my Huevos Rancheros, but you can get it vegetarian too! I loved all the flavors and textures of the dish, especially with the homemade tortillas and a Chipotle spicy sauce.
My mom and Justin each got the Queso Burger! My mom loved the queso sauce on top of the patty and Justin loved the sweet heat from the pickled jalapeños and the fries served on the side. There were so many brunch options to try, it was definitely hard to choose one, so I'd go back and try more!
